Meet Dr. Stefanie and Dr. Juan! Two Peruvian doctors living in Spain dreaming of gaining professional experience in the UK healthcare system. With the support of Dedicare, their dream became a reality. Here, they share their inspiring journey — from relocating to a new country to settling in and working as doctors in the UK.

Let’s start at the beginning—what inspired you to move from Spain to the UK and work within the NHS?

We were two Peruvian doctors living in Spain who wanted to work for the NHS and gain experience in the English system and culture. We knew in advance that the bureaucratic process was very tedious and lengthy but luckily, at a congress in Palma de Mallorca, we met Dedicare and they offered us their support to achieve our goal.

What helped you feel more certain about taking the step to work in the UK?

The decision to move countries was significant and brought a lot of uncertainty, however Dedicare helped us through the process, and they organized a taster visit to the region and surgery where we were going to work months in advance so that we could see the area and feel the day-to-day experience of working there.

What role did the taster visit to the region play in your final decision to move?

This was determinant to take the decision to change countries. Throughout the process they helped with literally everything to achieve the goal (OET preparation, MCQ preparation, legal documents, GMC, sponsorship, VISA, NPL).  They connected us with all the people involved in the induction program process and also connected us with other Spanish doctors who were currently working there.

Looking back, how would you describe your overall experience with the Dedicare team?

All the people at Dedicare have always been very professional, fast-responding and being able to schedule video calls if needed. We would not have been able to achieve our goal of moving to work in the UK without Dedicare’s help, without Lewis Whiteoak, Fiona Carr and Fiona Thompson. They were always with us, helping and guiding us until we were finally in the UK working as doctors and even after as we became great friends.

What would you say to other international doctors who are considering a move to the UK?
