Substantive | 10 PAs | South West England
We are working with a forward-thinking acute hospital in the South West to recruit a substantive Consultant Gastroenterologist. This is an excellent opportunity to join an established, supportive gastroenterology team within a Trust that is actively expanding and modernising its services. The role is based primarily at the hospital’s coastal site, with some cross-site working expected as services integrate.
The Role
The successful Consultant will play a key role in delivering high-quality inpatient and outpatient gastroenterology care. Responsibilities include:
General gastroenterology clinics, endoscopy sessions and inpatient management
Participation in the General (Internal) Medicine on-call rota (1:11)
Participation in the Emergency Endoscopy rota (1:6)
Option to negotiate additional PAs for educational supervision, research or justified service needs
Use of modern digital systems including advanced dictation and video consultation platforms
Clinical & Governance Responsibilities
The post holder will manage their caseload in line with Trust policies, meeting standards for triage, documentation and referral-to-treatment times. They will also contribute to local audit, governance and service development within a collaborative clinical environment.
Teaching & Education
This is a teaching environment, and the Consultant will support undergraduate teaching and may deliver occasional sessions to other healthcare professionals.
Research Opportunities
There are strong opportunities to engage in research, with support available for involvement in ongoing projects, trainee supervision and the development of new studies.
Professional Requirements
Full GMC registration with a licence to practise
Inclusion on the Specialist Register (or within 6 months of CCT/CESR)
Commitment to ongoing CPD, appraisal and revalidation
Membership of a medical defence organisation (recommended)
