“Having someone in your corner makes all the difference”
Moving abroad for work is a big decision. Here, GP Hannah shares what it was like making the move to Ireland – and the difference the right support made along the way.
When Hannah decided to explore a GP role in Ireland, it meant navigating not just a new job, but a new country. From the first conversation to arriving and settling in, she was guided every step of the way by her Dedicare recruitment consultant.
What was the process of finding a role in Ireland like?
The whole process of finding me a GP role in Ireland and making the move over was amazing. From the very beginning, my consultant Lee was incredibly friendly, knowledgeable and supportive, and always there to answer any questions or concerns, no matter how big or small.
Were there any difficult moments along the way?
There were definitely some stressful moments. Lee was brilliant at keeping me calm – no mean feat! – talking things through and making sure I always knew where I stood. He went above and beyond to make the whole process as straightforward as possible.
What did you value most about the support you received?
How honest and trustworthy it felt. I always felt that Lee genuinely had my best interests at heart rather than simply wanting to fill a position, which made such a difference when making such a big career and life decision.
Over the course of the process, I’ve actually come to see him as a friend – someone I genuinely trust and whose advice I really value.
What would you say to another doctor considering working in Ireland?
I genuinely couldn’t recommend Dedicare enough. They should be extremely proud of such an exemplary colleague; Lee is an asset to the team. I’m incredibly grateful for everything he has done to help me make the move to Ireland and find the right role.
